Sugar
Creek Twp. -
CHARLES M. SHOEMAKER,
son of Daniel and Sophia, and brother of
Charles, Joseph, Jacob, Emily, Malinda, Daniel, George,
Noah, Mary Ann, Andrew and Abraham, was born
in Fairfield County, Oct. 8th, 1824, and came to Allen
County in 1846. His wife is a daughter of Jacob
and Rachel Lakemiller. (See Andrew Stemen.)
She was born in Fairfield County, Sept. 4th, 1829.
Mr. S. has held the office of assessor, and was
township trustee seven years. In 1861, on the 20th
of July, his house and shop with contents of both were
destroyed by fire. Mr. Shoemaker thinks
that the jolliest time he ever had was at a religious
meeting held in the old meeting house, which stood on
the old fair ground,, a mile south of Lima.
Stuckey was the preacher, and Bowersox led
the singing, while some dozens of the congregation were
"tight as bricks."

Richland Twp. -
JOSEPH SHULL was born in Wayne
County, July 4, 1833. In 1845 he came with his
parents, Frederick and Catharine Shull, to this
county. He married a daughter of Hector and
Elizabeth Carlisle, who had seven children -
Margaret Ann, Mary Jane, Martha, Ann, John, David,
William and Charles. Mr. Shull's
brothers and sisters are Jacob, John , James,
Jackson, Frederick, Charles, Elizabeth, Catharine,
Margaret, Sarah and Charlotte. His
children are Hector, Frederick, Catharine, Elizabeth,
and Howard. Mr. Shull has held the office
of justice of the peace.

Auglaize Twp. -
ADAM SMITH was born in
Perry County, in 1821. He married Elizabeth
Tabler, who was born in the same county in 1827.
They have seven children—William H., Margaret A.,
Asbury O., Mary C., Charles, Adam and Eva M.
William married Margaret Sprinkel, and
lives in this county. Margaret was married
to George Swinehart. Mr.
Smith's parents are John and Jemima
Smith, who had seven children - James, Adam,
Joseph, Maria, William, Samuel and Sarah.
His wife's parents are Jeremiah and Margaret Tabler,
who had five children —Mary, Peter,
Thomas J., Jonas, and Elizabeth.

Spencer Twp. -
L. C. SMITH and his wife
are both natives of this county. Mr.
Smith's parents, William and Elizabeth Smith,
came from Greene County, in 1834; and his wife's
parents, Enoch
and Levina Brower, came the same year, from
Virginia. Mr. S. was born in 1848—his wife
in 1850. They have one child, William C.
Mr. Smith’s brothers and sisters are,
Melvina, Sarah, James, Emily,
Columbus, America, and lsabella.

Auglaize Twp. -
LEONARD A. SNYDER
is a native of this county. He was born in
Jackson Township, May 9, 1841. His parents,
Adam and Elizabeth Snyder, came from Perry County in
1834. They had nine children - Rebecca, Sarah,
William, Jacob, John, Mary, Leonard, Susannah and
Nancy. He married Caroline, daughter of
George and Fanny Shrider, who came from Perry
County in 1854. Mrs. Snyder was born in
Perry County, Aug. 16, 1850. Names of teh children
of George adn Fannig Shrider; John, Jacob, Sarah,
Andrew, Mary A., Thomas, Caroline, Nancy and
Jennie. Children of Leonard A. and
Caroline Snyder: Sarah J., Cyrena A., Dora I., Ira L.,
and James N. They lost an infant son Apr.
10, 1869. Mr. Snyder held the office of
Constable in 1864.

DAVID STEINER's
parents, Christian and Barbara Steiner, came from
Wayne County in 1837. David was born in
this township, Jan. 25, 1843. He married Mary
Schaller, whose parents, John and Elizabeth
Schaller, came to this county in 1870, from
Switzerland, where Mary was born, May 25, 1850.
Mrs. S. has one brother, John, and one
sister Elizabeth. The names of Mr.
Steiner's brothers and sisters are Elias, Gideon,
Isaac, Peter, Mary, Noah, Barbara, John and
Fanny. David and Mary Steiner have two
children, Albert Henry and Armin Theodore.
Mr. S. has held the office of treasurer.

GIDEON STEINER
is a son of Christian and Barbara Steiner.
Elizabeth, his wife, is a daughter of John and
Anna Haas. Mr. Steiner was born in
Richland County, May 14, 1841, and was brought to Allen
County by his parents when he was about one year old.
Mrs. Steiner was born in Crawford County, July 2,
1847. Their children are, Mary Ellen, Robert
Edward Lee, and Alice May. Mr. Steiner
is one of a family of ten children - Elias, Gideon,
David, Isaac, Peter, Mary, Barbara, Noah, John and
Fanny. Mr. Steiner has been Township
Treasurer.

ANDREW STEMEN was born
in Fairfield County Dec. 31, 1825, and came to this
county with his parents in 1838. His wife was born
in Fairfield County May 20, 1827. Andrew is
a son of Peter and Mary Stemen, who had six
children - Andrew, Benjamin, Magdalina, Elizabeth,
Isaac and Christian. Mrs. S. is a
daughter of Jacob and Rachel Lakemiller, who came
from Fairfield County in 1830, and whose children are
John, Andrew, Jacob, Elizabeth, Daniel, Benjamin, Jane,
Rebecca and Sampson.

DANIEL STEVICK
is a son of Jacob and Srah Stevick, whose
children are John, William, Annie, Joseph, Jacob,
Daniel, Eli, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth and George.
Daniel was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania,
Dec. 4, 1826. His wife is Margaret,
daughter of David and Margaret E. Jrushel who had
nine children - Catharine, Maria, John, Peter,
Margaret, David, Elizabeth, Henry and Sarah.
She was born in Stark County, Ohio, Sept. 18, 1832.
David A., Jacob A. and Jessie L., are the
children of Daniel and Margaret Stevick.
Mr. S. was one of the Trustees of Bath Township for
three years.

JOHN STUDER is a native of
Switzerland. He was born in the canton of Berneon
the 25th of Dec., 1829. His parents, John and
Maria, have four children - John, Mary, Catharine
and Elizabeth. His wife, Anna,
(deceased) was the only child of Christian and Anna
Beckler. She was born in Switzerland on the
30th of Nov., 1833. They have one child, John
Studer.

Amanda Twp. -
JAMES SUNDERLAND's
parents, Dye and Mercy Sunderland, came to Allen
County from Montgomery County in 1820. James
was born in this county in 1827. His wife was born
in Delaware County in 1830. Their children are,
Jacob, Henrietta, Charles, Mercy E., Mary E., and
Jennie. Mrs. Sunderland is a daughter
of Jacob and Nancy Baker, who came from Delaware
County in 1838, and whose children are Rachel, Susan,
Jacob, David W., William A., Thos. B., Levi C., and
Jemima.

JOSEPH THOMAS
was born in South Wales, Sept. 2, 1834, and came to
Allen County, in 1842, with his parents, John and
Elizabeth Thomas. He has eight brothers -
John, William, Howell, James, David, Evan, Lewis and
Morris. His wife is a daughter of Morris
F. and Mary F. Jones, who came to this county in the
year 1846, from Butler County, where Mrs. Thomas
was born, July 22, 1843. Mrs. Thomas is one
of a family of six - Sarah, John, Elizabeth, Richard,
David and Benjamin. Mr. Thomas has been
constable and school director.

Twp. -
JOHN F. TONE
married Julia Ann Andrews. Their children
are Albert Lyman, Ellen, Aurilla, Emma Percy, John
Frederick, Franklin Christopher, Charles Gustin, William
Fremont and Mary Rose. Mr. Tone was
born in Grafton County, New Hampshire, in the year 1822.
His parents, Christopher and Aurilla Tone, never
resided in this county. Mrs. Tone was born
in Delaware County, Ohio, in the year 1825. Her
parents are Lyman and Percy Andrews. She is
sister of Sylvester, William, Sophronia, Mary, Simon,
James and Delia.
