G. S. OLDFIELD, grocer,
corner Seventh and Chillicothe streets, is a native of Portsmouth.
His father, William Oldfield, came from the State of New York
to Portsmouth in the year 1814, where he died in the year 1861, aged
seventy years. He was a miller and farmer, and the later years
of his life were spent in the grocery business. He was at one
time an Associate Judge, also a member of the Ohio Legislature, and
was a consistent member of All-Saints' Episcopal Church from
its organization. G. S. Oldfield lived on the farm till
about sixteen years of age, and in 1850 went to California, where he
remained five years in the gold mines. In 1855 he returned to
Portsmouth and has ever since been engaged in the grocery business.
He was married Nov. 15, 1864, to Eliza J. Baker, a native of
England. They have five children - William S., Frank C.,
Robert B. and George G. Two children, John
R. and Edward, died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs.
Oldfield are members of All-Saints' Episcopal Church. He
is a Master Mason and a member of Aurora Lodge, No. 48.
