OSCAR OLIVER HAZELBAKER, second
son of Joseph and Harriet (Collings) Hazelbaker,
was born June 7, 1862, in Adams County, Ohio. He
was reared principally on a farm, and spent some time on
the Ohio on a steamer with his father. He was
driver on the Ohio Canal three years, after which he was
engaged three years in James Hall's store at the
mouth of Brush Creek, Scioto County. He then
engaged in agricultural pursuits till 1879. He was
educated at the common schools and attended the graded
schools at Waverly one term. In 1872 he removed
with his father to Latham, and since 1880 has
been engaged in teaching. March, 1883, he was
elected to his present position of Clerk of Mifflin
Township.
