For Reference: Noble County was formed in 1851
--- CALDWELL - The village is named for Joseph and Samuel
Caldwell, its original landowners.
Caldwell is the location of the Thorla-McKee Well,
believed to be the first oil producing well in North America.
While passing through an area of thunderstorms and
turbulence over Ohio early in the morning of the 3rd of
September 1925, the airship Shenandoah was torn apart and
crashed in several pieces near Caldwell.. (Source
