  JAMES RAMSEY, b. in Ireland, about 1744; emigrated to America with his parents, and settled in York county Penn, about 1756; settled in Washington county, 1802, where he d. 1837; served in the Revolutionary war; his wife, whom he m. in York county, was of Scotch-Irish descent; had issue, among others:
     I. William, b. in York county, Penn.; removed with his parents to Washington county, in the same State, where he resided until 1837; thence removed to Nottingham township, Harrison county, Ohio, where he d. 1856, aged sixty-six years; served in the War of 1812; m. Mary Anderson, daughter of Robert Anderson, of Washington county, Penn; had issue: 1. James; 2. Robert, d. in Iowa, 1889; 3. William, b. in Washington county, May 1, 1817; settled at Cadiz, in 1874; m. 1840, Mary Hines, a native of Harrison county, daughter of John and Rebecca Dickens Hines (had issue: i. John, b. 1843; served in the Civil War; killed at the battle of Spottsylvania Court House, 1864; ii. James, settled in Texas; iii. William Robert, settled in Texas; iv. F. Marion, settled in Texas; v. Anderson Deacons, settled in Texas; vi. Jennie, m. David Oglevee; vii. Philene; viii. Mary, d. in infancy); 4. Thomas, settled in Coshocton county, Ohio; 5. John. b. Nov. 4, 1823; m. (1st) Mar. 16, 1847, Sarah J. Hines, a native of Nottingham township, d. 1865; daughter of Isaac and Sarah Patterson Hines, m. (2d) 1865, Emily Ford, b. in Harrison county, 1825; d. about 1880p; m. (3d) 1881, Angeline Hines, b.  Oct. 31, 1831, daughter of Abraham and Hannah Carson Hines (had issue by first wife:  i. Isaac L.; ii. Mary E.; iii. William B., b. Mar. 14,  1852; settled in Williamson county, Tenn.; iv. John F., b. Dec. 20, 1853; settled in Cadiz township, v. James P., b. Feb. 5, 1856; settled in Freeport township; vi. Harvey C., b. Apr. 19, 1859; vii. Robert F., b. Oct. 6, 1861; viii. Martha A., b. Nov. 25, 1863); 6. Samuel; 7. Margaret, m. B. S. Ford; 8. Mary, m. John Mahanna; 9. Jane.
     JOHN HINES, b. 1778; d. 1871; father of Mary Ramsey, m. 1807, Rebecca Dickens or Deacons, d. 1859; removed from Pennsylvania to Harrison county, settling in Cadiz; had issue, fourteen children, among whom: 1. Jeremiah; 2. David; 3. James, settled in Nottingham township; 4. Abram; 5. Mary, m. William Ramsey.

  DAVID RANKIN, emigrated from the north of Ireland, and settled in Frederick county, Virginia, about 1838-50; d. near Winchester, Va., 1768; leaving a widow, Jennet, and children, David, William, Hugh and Barbara; of these: William Rankin, b. about 1720; d. 1793; m. in Virginia, Abigail Tassia; removed to Mount Pleasant township, Washington county, Penn., 1774, and purchased 1,600 acres of land on Raccoon Creek; had issue:
     I. David, m. and remained in Virginia.
     II. William, m. and remained in Virginia.
     III. Zachariah, d. 1785-86, from the bite of a mad wolf; m. Nancy ____; had issue:  1. ____, m. Jesse Woods.
     IV. Matthew.
     V. John, d. April, 1788; m. Rebecca ____; had issue:  1. James; 2. Mary.
     VI. James, killed by the Indians while on a return trip from Kentucky to Pennsylvania.
     VII. Thomas, b. in Virginia, 1760; d. May 12, 1832; removed to Moorefield township, Harrison county, about 1805; served in the Indian wars of the border; m. Nancy Foreman; had issue:  1. James, b. in Washington county, Dec. 22, 1784; settled in Athens township, Harrison county; served in the War of 1812; m. Dec. 15, 1809, Hester Early, b. near Chartiers Creek, Washington county, Penn., May 31, 1793; d. Mar. 29 1874 (had issue: i. Jane; ii. Thomas; iii. Margaret; iv. Nancy; v. Sarah; vi. William b. in Athens township.  Mar. 12, 1822; d. Jan. 3, 1864; m. Nov. 27, 1856, Mary Dunlap, daughter of John Dunlap; vii. Matilda; viii. Israel, b. Nov. 20, 1830; m. Aug. 18, 1870.  Sarah Dickerson; d. Aug. 29, 1886; daughter of Adam Dickerson); 2. William; 3. David; 4. Jane; 5. Nancy.
