- Detective Norris arrived here Saturday morning in charge of J. W. Schooley, the Baltimore grain operator, whose arrest has been noted. Schooley was put in jail and has little to say, but is confident he will clear himself.
- Word has been received here of the death of Geo. W. Drake, who left here for Kansas two years ago. He was found dead, shot through the head, in Salt Lake City, Utah last week (Wednesday), and is supposed to have been murdered for his money. He was a soldier in the 86th and 129th Ohio Regiments and 8th O. V. C., and was born and brought up in this city, where his relatives now live.
- Frank Kelly, who is held in the City Prison for a petty offense, was rearrested Saturday afternoon and transferred to the County Jail on suspicion of being one of the murderers of Aaron Goodfellow, a former resident of this county, who was shot at Bloomington, Ill., on teh2th of August last. Kelly answers a description given of one of the murderers, who went by the name of Devine, exactly. HE was much agitated when informed of the new charge, but declares his innocence. Kelly is held to await advices from Bloomington.

DIED FOR A CROCK OF CREAM. -
Ohio Picnicker Was Killed by a Farmer Because He Upset It.
Springfield, O., June 11 - John Beck of this city while with a picnic part at Clifton, this county, was killed by Robert Mendenhal, a farmer, who became incensed over the upsetting of a crock of cream by the picnickers.

Penitentiary Chaplain Attempted to Defend Herrick at Methodist Conference.
SPECIAL TO THE PLAIN DEALER.
     SPRINGFIELD, O., Sept. 9 - The Cincinnati M. E. Conference this evening by an overwhelming vote adopted a resolution denunciatory of Gov. Herrick. It reads:
     "One year ago this conference said: 'We also express our regret that the governor of Ohio allied himself with the liquor interest in his persistent efforts by the threatened use of his vote prerogative to compel the legislature to modify its actions in the interests of the saloon against the expressed which of the people through their representatives. We earnestly protested against the renomination of the present governor of Ohio.'
     'Similar action was taken by the synod conferences, conventions, both state and district of all the great Protestant denominations of Ohio. The political bosses paid no attention to this voice of the church but deliberately, renominated for governor the man against whom we protested. We do, therefore, now express our indignation at this utter disregard of the wishes of the Christian manhood of Ohio and in view of said action we reiterate our convictions in the case and propose to register those convictions at the polls.'
     Chaptain Starr of the Ohio penitentiary made an attempt to defend Herrick. The majority against him was so great he had to desist. Starr was repeatedly hissed.
