Runaway Girl is Being Sought by Anxious Father Fourteen Year
Old Girl Elopes with Husband of Her Sister
Local police authorities have received
a poster from L. G. Stewart of Carrollton, Ohio, offering a
reward of $100 for the arrest and return of Martha Leona Stewart,
his daughter, who eloped from Carrollton, June 3, with Charles C.
Wheatley, and was last seen the same day in Canton, Ohio.
The authorities also are requested to notify Sheriff George
Gailbraith of Carrollton of any information in regard to the
girl, who is but 14 years of age.
There is a story of heart interest behind this
matter-of-fact statement to the police.
A communication from Carrollton to The Advertiser
states that the man Wheatley married Nellie Stewart,
April 10, 1916, and eloped the following June with her 14 year old
sister.
The letter states that the family naturally is
prostrated and has not the funds to properly prosecute the case.
The parents are most anxious to discover the whereabouts of the
daughter.
The circular containing the reward contains a likeness
of the young girl and also one of Wheatley toether with a
good description of both.
